The five of us fell in love in five seconds. We were a mess sitting on the floor with puppies crawling all over us. This was the dream dog. No shedding. Very obedient. Pleasant personalities. Great with kids. An overall perfect dog for a family….
“Mom, why are you going to Uganda?” Zoie asked me with a frown. I gathered her in my arms and I said, “Baby, it’s a special trip for mommy to help kids with, jiggers in their feet, feel better and loved.” “But, I want you home with me.” she said firmly.
As a little girl, I dreamt of two things when it came to adoption. First, I dreamt of one day adopting a child so I could offer this special gift to a child–just as I had received. And secondly, to one day see a picture of my birth mother (especially her hips—to see what I was up against!) After many years of waiting, the second dream of seeing my birth mother’s picture transpired last Sunday…
Foster care scared me to death! My first reaction was, “no, there is no way I can do that. I can’t love a child like my own and then say good-bye, I’d get way too attached.” Well, now three years and twenty-three children later God has shown me over and over that what He calls you to, He equips you for. “I” can’t do any of this, but He can do miraculous things when we say yes to His call. “It would be impossible to fully understand the life and emotions of a child going through the foster care system, but this short narrative film portrays that saga in a poetic light, with brushes of fear, anger, sadness, and a tiny bit of hope.” If you are a foster parent, I hope this film validates you, encourages you and inspires you on your journey. Thank you foster parents for your radical hospitality!
